Welcome to The IBC Introduction to Business Management Course

About the course

This course has been designed by the IBC, particularly for junior barristers’ clerks. The content, format and agenda of the course has been specified by the Education Committee of the IBC. This course, and its contents, are solely owned by the IBC, who will constantly strive to improve and develop the topics to react to the demands of the profession, legal and cultural changes, and delegates’ feedback.

It was very important from the start of designing the course that it is accessible to all clerks, no matter their geographic location.

Suitability of the course

Chambers vary tremendously in what level of tasks and responsibility they place on new starters. So, generally speaking, this course has been written to appeal to clerks who have just joined chambers, as well as those with up to three years’ experience in the profession. It covers all the foundation information and skills required for a good start in the profession, widening knowledge and developing business management skills.

Time allowance

Apart from one face-to-face training day, the course is conducted online and is therefore extremely flexible. Study can be completed in the delegates’ own time, however, from commencement to certification will be six months. If successful, a passing certificate will be issued by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). There will be two intakes per year, in January and July.

There is a mandatory in-person training room day, for the January intake 19th March 2024 and for the July intake 24th September 2024 – both held at a central London chambers.

Booking

The cost of the course is £1780 + VAT, but this is discounted to £1465 + VAT for IBC members.
